8th coin fo the annual series Maple Leaf Forever.
Nature. History. Identity. Pride. From the forests of eastern Canada to its seat of honour at the centre of our nation’s flag, the sugar maple leaf carries a wealth of significance for Canadians.
Finely detailed engraving adds a life-like quality to this reverse design by Celia Godkin. A beloved Canadian emblem, Acer saccharum is easily identified by the distinctive shape of the two leaves featured in this natural portrait. Attached to the twig by its petiole, each sugar maple leaf seemingly reaches for the opposite side of the coin while revealing the deeply etched veins that run through their palmate lobes, towards the pointed tips. The maple twig also bears three u-shaped, doublewinged fruits that extend from slender stalks.
