As the Curtain Rises...
It is the last day of school before the winter holidays begin. The classrooms, all silent now, are hung with festive paper chains of red and green. The silent halls are decked with tissue-paper ivy and glittering bells of golden yellow. No school tomorrow!Let the days of fun, snow, and freedom begin.
...But not just yet: first, there is this afternoon's pageant. For the moment, holiday excitement is replacedby nervous anticipation. Excited children laugh, frown, and whisper their lines. In a few moments, the curtain will rise and the lines eachstudent has painstakingly memorized must be delivered with zeal (and perhaps an occasional cue from Teacher). The three wise men peek out from behind the stage curtain.
